Taxi Driver Kicked My Wife and Our Baby out during a Hailstorm in the Middle of Nowhere \u2014 I Taught Him a Lesson<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While at work, Keith gets a series of urgent text messages from his wife, Lynn. He discovers that her cab driver has kicked her and their son out of the cab due to the baby\u2019s crying. He rushes to get to them, but his anger runs deep. Determined to teach the driver a lesson, he plans his revenge.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I work as a tow truck driver, and sometimes this means that my wife, Lynn, has to use a cab to get around if I\u2019m at work. It\u2019s not ideal, but it\u2019s the best option we\u2019ve got until we can save up for our second vehicle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Everything was fine until my phone blew up the other day with frantic texts from my wife, who had taken our son, Jimmy, for his check-up at the pediatrician.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lynn tried calling me twice, but I was unable to speak at the time. I texted her, wanting her to message me instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYou okay, Keith?\u201d my friend, Ben, asked as we waited to drive off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLynn\u2019s tried calling, but you know how we\u2019re not supposed to take calls. I just want her to let me know that everything is okay. Jimmy\u2019s check-up was this morning.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m sure she\u2019ll be fine. The little guy, too,\u201d Ben said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I nodded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lynn probably wanted to tell me how Jimmy was meeting all his milestones and that the doctor was impressed with him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unfortunately, that wasn\u2019t the case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Instead, my phone started to go off with her text messages, leaving me furious and worried.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lynn<\/strong>: The cab driver kicked us out because Jimmy was crying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Keith<\/strong>: What?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lynn<\/strong>: We\u2019re stuck in the middle of nowhere. We\u2019re in the rain. I don\u2019t know where to go or what to do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lynn<\/strong>: Jimmy is coughing. He\u2019s wet. The diaper bag is wet. Come get us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat the hell?\u201d I said out loud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat happened?\u201d Ben asked again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLynn\u2019s cab driver made them get out of the car because Jimmy was crying. She\u2019s stuck in the rain, and she doesn\u2019t know what to do.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTake my keys,\u201d Ben said. \u201cIt\u2019s a short run to the impound lot. Go get my van and get to your family. I\u2019ll finish up with this scene and meet you somewhere later.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know how to thank you,\u201d I said, taking his keys. I picked up my phone to text Lynn before rushing out into the rain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Keith<\/strong>: Drop me the pin. I\u2019m coming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I ran to the impound lot where Ben\u2019s truck was waiting. I got in and was ready to get to my wife and son.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I found them waiting in a narrow alley, trying to shelter themselves from the rain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cCome on,\u201d I said, taking Jimmy from Lynn and leading them to the truck.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhose truck is this?\u201d Lynn asked, trying to warm Jimmy up in my jacket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBen\u2019s,\u201d I said. \u201cHe\u2019s covering for me. Now, tell me. Did you get a good look at this man?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHoney, I know him. Well, not really. But I know his wife; we have the same fitness classes at the gym.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cGood,\u201d I replied, certain that the vein in my forehead was going to pop soon. When I was driving, I had expected the worst. But actually seeing my wife and baby stranded in such terrible weather made my blood boil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m going to teach him a lesson tomorrow,\u201d I said. \u201cAre you okay?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lynn smiled at me sadly and nodded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI don\u2019t care about myself, we just need to get Jimmy home and into a hot bath.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I drove home in a fury, keeping the heater on high, trying to prevent my son from getting sick.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We hurried home, where I bathed Jimmy in the tub while Lynn got into a hot shower at the same time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHis name is Kiran,\u201d Lynn said, drying her hair with a towel. \u201cThey live two streets away from us. His wife, Rose, has given me a ride home once or twice, and we drove past their house.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I clenched my fists, trying to control my anger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cCome on, let\u2019s go make some soup,\u201d I said, carrying Jimmy out of our bedroom where I had just changed him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the kitchen, I watched as my wife kept a tight hold on our son. Every time he made a sound, she checked him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDo you think we should take him to a doctor?\u201d she asked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNo, let\u2019s just wait until the morning,\u201d I said, trying to be rational. \u201cBut let\u2019s also keep an eye on him and if he develops a fever.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When Jimmy was asleep and Lynn was eating her soup under a blanket, I called two of my friends who were also drivers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe\u2019ll do whatever you want, Keith,\u201d Alan said. \u201cYou just don\u2019t mess with a man\u2019s family like that. And just because the baby was crying? No!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYeah,\u201d Matthew agreed, his TV blaring in the background. \u201cYou just tell me what you need from me; I have the morning free tomorrow.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Together, we devised a plan for retribution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The next day, I had breakfast with Lynn and Jimmy. Both of them were healthy without any sniffles, despite being in the rain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPlease,\u201d Lynn said, as I grabbed Ben\u2019s keys. \u201cI know you\u2019re frustrated by the situation, but don\u2019t do anything that you\u2019ll regret.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019ll do what I think is right,\u201d I said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I kissed her and Jimmy and left.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I drove to Kiran\u2019s street and waited for him to leave. Luckily, it wasn\u2019t long before his cab pulled out and he was on the road. He made his way to a local coffee shop, yawning as he walked in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That was our chance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis is it,\u201d Alan said, as he jumped out of his cab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I hooked Kiran\u2019s car onto Ben\u2019s tow truck and moved it around the corner. Then, I rushed back to my parking spot. I attached Alan\u2019s car, an identical yellow cab to Kiran\u2019s, to Ben\u2019s tow truck.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Calling Ben, I gave him the heads up that I was using his truck to teach Kiran a lesson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDo what you need to do, mate,\u201d Ben said. \u201cI\u2019ll meet you after and we can switch trucks again. Teach this man a lesson that he won\u2019t forget.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Matthew, already in position, watched Kiran from across the street.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAs he exits the coffee shop, I\u2019m going to drive off,\u201d I said to Matthew on the phone. \u201cYou get ready to offer him a ride.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Driving away, I heard Matthew calling out to Kiran, who looked flustered and almost dropped his coffee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFollow that tow truck!\u201d he exclaimed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Little did he know that his car was actually safely parked around the corner. Alan was with me, sitting up front and enjoying the ride.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhere are you driving to?\u201d Alan asked me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTo the industrial area,\u201d I said, thinking about the mill that was almost at the outskirts of town. There was a sad motel nearby; if anything, Kiran could use their phone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After driving about 30 miles, I slowed the car.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat the hell is this?\u201d Kiran demanded when I stopped the truck, Alan and I getting out of it. \u201cWhere\u2019s my car?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cRemember the woman and baby you left in the rain?\u201d I growled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His eyes widened as realization dawned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cObviously, now you can see that I didn\u2019t tow your cab away. Your cab is safely parked around the corner from where you left it. But you? You\u2019re going to get a taste of what you put my family through.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Matthew interrupted, handing Kiran a slip of paper.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHere\u2019s your fare for having me follow. $323, pay up,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI don\u2019t have that kind of money on me,\u201d Kiran said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNot our problem. I\u2019m sure you\u2019ll find a way to deliver it,\u201d Alan said, leaning against the tow truck. \u201cEnjoy your walk back.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I turned my back on Kiran and unhooked Alan\u2019s cab so that he could drive off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYou better start walking, Kiran,\u201d I said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We left Kiran stranded. He had to find a way to make it back, just as he had left Lynn and Jimmy to fend for themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I didn\u2019t care how he figured it out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When I got home at the end of the day, Lynn was waiting for me, Jimmy cooing in her arms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat did you do?\u201d she asked, concern etched on her face.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNothing bad,\u201d I said. \u201cBut I taught him a lesson. He won\u2019t do that to anyone else.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My wife smiled and pulled me into an embrace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
